There’s this old experiment where there’s a group of monkeys with like a hanging banana and every time
one of them goes to touch the banana the room is sprayed with freezing water. The whole group quickly
learns to not touch the banana and if a new monkey is introduced who in turn goes to grab the banana
he is reprimanded. So, slowly but surely they remove monkey after monkey and add monkey after monkey
with each new monkey quickly learning not to touch the banana and scalding those that do… And eventually
there are no monkeys left that were ever hit by cold water. However, any time any new monkey goes for
the low hanging fruit they are scalded by the group even well after the water has been disconnected.
What does this have to do with society??? well we aren’t free of ideas that are simply not relevant anymore
and we’re scalding or failing to understand the futility of bad ideas. The logic simply escapes us.
Morning rush hour. Wake up early… Just like everybody else… To get into your car… Fill the roads…
And sit there… 9 to 5 daylight hours. For millenniums we depended on the sun to get work done, so
our work hours were every available daylight hours. With lights and refrigerators this is no longer
the case. Feel free to be productive any time of the day and sleep any time you feel like it. Society
seems to want to cram everybody into these crappy hours, banks i’m looking at you, but break the shackles!!
modesty and wearing clothes. I have no idea where this trend ever came to be. In the amazon tribes
regular is naked. Nobody is born modest it’s an ideology we learned. Beauty
and beauty standards are a complex subject but stands to reason are at least somewhat learned as
well. Walk down the street in this country naked and enjoy your time in the mental ward or prison.
How and when people started scalding each other for being naked??? and why?? no idea.
See dog dicks everywhere? no problem. Human dicks? none of that.
Ownership in general. Humans take ownership to another level. Sure species have territories
and rights to the resources in those spaces, but humans take this to another level. Everything
on earth belongs to us and everything can and will be used by us that can be easily. What
gives me the right to have more or less than another person? Because i’ve worked smarter
in this giant hierarchy world we’ve created? Because my parents were entitled to more
so I get more because I fell out of my mom? Because i was born in some cases a few
kilometers difference(borders)? How much crap we have is often used as a metric
of success. Obviously we need to eat now and until we die. Nice to have a home.
Everything makes sense, but as a whole the concept is hit into the stratosphere.
I don’t think i’ve gone a day in my life without people arguing for greater rights
to stuff on our 5 billion year old planet. How can you have rights to something
that predates you by a factor of like 2 billion? Humans should be beyond ownership
instead of evolving, warping, and desperately clinging to the idea in the name of prosperity.
That cars aren’t a completely selfish terrible invention. Who has rights to the world’s resources???
all of us? some of us? “I get to shoot carbon and mono oxide into people because I stood behind
a counter hitting buttons on a cash register”. “I get to kill you because i’m bad at driving and my
car goes really fast by default under the laws”. “My tax dollars pay for these roads that only last
for 20 years even though roads that didn’t accommodate cars last for thousands of years and were
also paid for some how”. “Bikes don’t get to use the roads and kids shouldn’t play outside without risk
of insta death because i’m too overweight to do any other mode of transportation or give up
any of the 5 hours of TV I watch everyday”. It’s either people are mentally brainwashed or
completely narcissistic or both.
using technology to solve the problems created by technology. There was a time now stay
with me here. That humans were alive and we didn’t use electricity. Whoa, I know mind
blowing. The idea is that humans can live without technology. I would even argue
that we can live sustainably without technology. Plastic everywhere??? One day
we’ll have a diesel powered plastic inhaler??? bad ozone??? one day we’ll have
an ozone maker machine?? running out of power??? one day we’ll have a sun
sucking machine?? landfills overflowing??? one day we’ll have a diesel powered
Locking the mentally ill away for life or drugging them into oblivion. So, I was
around 6-7 and i was like why not just “remove”(kill) all the weak people in
society. Guy drinks himself to death on the corner? boom headshot? Sure,
I know you love clothes and sometimes mentally ill people don’t wear theirs
or you talk in a manner that they don’t. Or they talk about ghosts or god
and don’t even seem to register anything around them. Get em out of
society you cry. My uncle told me every society has a debt to people who
can’t take care of themselves. We are so successful and so prosperous that
it’s morally wrong to simply not use some of this prosperity to look after those
who can’t look after themselves IE children, the old, mentally ill. If a mentally
ill person has shown to be dangerous and kill then they should be treated as
such. But if a mentally ill person is drenched in rain and simply seeks shelter
at a school that isn’t trespassing that’s on society. If a mentally ill person
steals some 3 dollars socks just let them go. They don’t have the capacity to
commit crimes well by definition. I’m not saying give drivers
licenses to people who are unstable in much the same way old people shouldn’t
being afraid of the mentally ill. When regular people have greater capacity for doing bad things.
Just as likely to get beaten by your drunk husband, or your sober husband as being attacked
by a mentally ill person. The only difference is regular people are better at crimes because
mentally ill people are at a disadvantage because they are mentally ill.
